The Kerala Legislative Assembly passed a unanimous resolution in June 2024 asking the central government to change the name to Keralam
across all schedules of the constitution. The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha
passed the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill in August 2026, which
received assent from President Droupadi Murmu. The Union Home Ministry
officially notified the change, making Keralam the legal name effective
August 25, 2026.
